Hazardous-Area Professional Acoustic Imaging Camera

The Megger MPAC208-IECEx provides all the capability of the standard MPAC208 in a version certified for use in explosive atmospheres, bringing acoustic imaging of gas leaks, mechanical faults, and partial discharge to hazardous sites. Like the standard camera, it lets maintenance teams pinpoint ultrasonic sources without interrupting operations.

At its core is a 208-channel MEMS microphone array with sensitivity from 2 kHz to 100 kHz, letting the camera detect very small leaks and subtle ultrasonic patterns. Acoustic data is fused with a 13 MP optical camera and presented on an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen as a clear, real-time overlay that makes sound sources immediately visible.

With a detection range up to 200 meters, the camera works for close-proximity inspection as well as stand-off safety at substations, switchgear, and overhead line work. The Focus function suppresses background noise so operators can isolate a target source even in loud plants, while SoundScan directional guidance helps trace sources outside the visible frame.

Three operating modes cover the core applications. Gas Leak mode automatically estimates leak rate, cost impact, and distance to the source. Partial Discharge mode captures PD activity with Phase Resolved Partial Discharge (PRPD) analysis to support early detection and classification of discharge types. Mechanical mode identifies bearing wear, valve leakage, cavitation, and vibration-related wear through their ultrasonic signatures.

The camera weighs 1.4 kg, carries an IP54 rating, and runs up to 10 hours on interchangeable smart batteries (two 5-hour packs included). Note that the MPAC-V verifier and the optional thermal camera modules are not rated for explosive atmospheres; use those accessories in non-hazardous areas only.
