The Fluke 820-2 is a rugged, compact, handheld LED stroboscope that freezes the motion of rotating or reciprocating machinery so it can be inspected, identified, and diagnosed while running — no need to stop the equipment or make physical contact. By matching the strobe's flash rate to the speed of a moving part, the part appears to stand still, letting technicians read part numbers, observe gear teeth, and spot parasitic oscillations, flaws, slippage, or unwanted distortion on belts, bearings, shafts, fans, pumps, clutches, and similar components.
Beyond stop-motion inspection, the 820-2 doubles as a non-contact strobe tachometer for measuring the running speed or frequency of a shaft, motor, or other rotating element — useful where you can't reach the shaft to apply reflective tape for a laser tachometer or make contact with a mechanical tachometer. An ultra-bright 7-LED array provides a high-intensity light source that, unlike traditional xenon lamps, never needs replacement, and the solid-state design with no filaments or glass is built to take a 1-meter drop.
Key Features
- Adjustable flash rate of 30 to 300,000 FPM (0.5 to 5000 Hz), settable in FPM or Hz, to stop motion from 30 RPM up to very high speeds
- High-intensity 7-LED array delivering 4,800 lux at 6,000 FPM at 30 cm (approx. 6500 K) — a solid-state light source that never needs replacement like xenon lamps
- High accuracy of 0.02 % (plus or minus 1 digit) with a quartz-referenced timing system
- Doubles as a non-contact strobe tachometer to measure rotational speed or frequency without reflective tape or shaft contact
- Adjustable flash duration and delay (in microseconds or degrees) plus pulse width modulation for sharp, blur-free images at high speed
- Advance/retard flash timing and convenient x2 and divide-by-2 push buttons for quickly viewing gear teeth, cutting surfaces, repeats, or drifting images
- Multi-line LCD display with simple, ergonomic push-button operation
- Rugged, portable design rated for a 1-meter drop (MIL-PRF-28800F Class 2 vibration); external trigger connector (3 V to 32 V) and protective case included
The Fluke 820-2 LED Stroboscope # FLUKE-820-2 is manufactured by Fluke. Valley Instrument Service is an authorized Fluke dealer offering full sales support, NIST-traceable calibration, and expert technical assistance.
